How To Roast Almonds

Tip on how to roast almonds

Do you know how to roast almonds?  Roasting almonds is very simple for anyone who has an oven or stovetop.  Many people love roasted almonds, especially around the holidays.  The unique flavor of the nuts really comes out after you roast them, making them a treat no one will turn down!  Roasted almonds are perfect to eat by themselves or as part of a dessert or even a salad.  They are the perfect addition to so many different dishes that you’ll want to keep some around all of the time.

There are two ways for you to learn how to roast almonds.  You can either dry roast your almonds, or you can use oil.  You can either roast the almonds in the oven or on top of the stove.  It all depends on which method of how to roast almonds you prefer.  However, you will probably find that roasting almonds in the oven is the simplest way to get it done.

Whether you’re dry roasting almonds or using oil, you will always preheat your oven to 350 degrees.  To dry roast almonds, all you need to do is spread the dry almonds out on a cookie sheet.  Make sure they are spread evenly across the cookie sheet.  Place the almonds in the oven for about 10 minutes.  You will know the almonds are roasted when they are golden brown and the smell fills your kitchen.  Remember that the almonds will continue to roast for a short time after you remove them from the oven because they have a high oil content that will cause them to continue roasting even after you take them out of the oven.  You might want to consider just roasting a few almonds to start if you’ve never done it before.  After the almonds come out of the oven and have had several minutes to sit, bite into one to make sure you’ve done it properly.  If the almond tastes burnt, then you’ve over-roasted it.  You may have to experiment a little bit to make sure you get the almonds roasted just right.

If you prefer using oil to roast your almonds, then you will want to line your cookie sheet with foil before you spread the almonds out on it.  Then use a basting brush to brush cooking oil right onto the almonds.  Canola oil is a good, healthy choice for roasting almonds.  You will still roast them in the oven for about 10 minutes; however, you will want to salt the almonds after you take them out of the oven if you used oil.  The best kind of salt for this is sea salt, but make sure you don’t salt the almonds too much because sea salt is very strong.

Another good way to learn how to roast almonds is by using a frying pan on top of the stove.  Any kind of pan other than non-stick will work well for this.  Just layer the bottom of the frying pan with almonds, turn the heat on, and toast them.  No oil is needed for this method; just stir the almonds occasionally.
