Bok Choy is one of those vegetables that are misunderstood, which is easy to understand why so many people have no clue how to cook Bok Choy.  In all, two primary methods are used for how to cook Bok Choy but before we get into those, we wanted to provide a brief description of what this vegetable is.  Bok Choy is most often referred to as Chinese Cabbage, also called Snow Cabbage.

This Asiatic plant grows in clusters that produce white stalks with dark green leaves that are nutritional and delicious.  Typically, Bok Choy is added to other foods to create a variety of dishes but prior to this, it is important to understand how to cook Bok Choy.  Once cooked and then added to other ingredients, food takes on an amazing flavor.

One of the more popular ways on how to cook Bok Choy is with stir frying.  For this, you want to purchase two heads, and you will need canola or sunflower oil or water, a few slices of fresh ginger, and a wok.  Now, if you do not have a wok, a frying pan would work almost as well.  For starters, make sure you wash the Bok Choy thoroughly to remove any preservative treatment and remaining dirt from harvesting.

Next, if you want to know how to cook Bok Choy using the oil, you need to heat a small amount of oil in the wok or frying pan, and then add the Bok Choy and ginger.  Cook for about two to three minutes, making sure to stir during the entire cooking process to help the vegetable cook all the way through but without becoming burned.  Many people prefer using the oil method because it produces a slight crispiness on the outside and produces an amazing flavor.

Now, if you want to try the method on how to cook Bok Choy with water, you would place about one-half cup of water in the wok or frying pan, bringing it to a boil.  Add the Bok Choy and ginger, cooking for about two minutes.  When cooking with water, the goal is to cook long enough so the vegetable becomes soggy, which would show it is done and ready to eat or add to other dishes.

If you want to make the process of cooking Bok Choy more effective, whether choosing water or oil, you should chop off the ends prior to washing.  Then, if you want the flavor to be even more enjoyable, during the cooking process you could add cut up pieces of chicken or baby scallops.  Of course, if you add meat to the process on how to cook Bok Choy, make sure you cook for the appropriate length of time to cook the meat all the way through.

One of the most important steps for cooking Bok Choy is to stir it during the cooking process.  Since this particular vegetable cooks quickly, it could burn.  Therefore, if you do not stir throughout the cooking time, you would ruin the vegetable.  Just remember, because Bok Choy does cook so quickly, it is a small investment of time to fix it.
